Shappi Khosandi

Last night Charlotte and I had another very pleasant meal at Pizza express in Norwich followed by the first of two Norwich Play House comedy evenings we have booked.

A few months ago I took a risk and dragged Charlotte along to see Lucy Porter. I've seen and loved Lucy Porter before, but I wasn't sure if Charlotte would like it. She loved it and said she wanted to do more comedy. That suited me just fine.

When I read about Shappi Khorsandi (this website, quoted on the flyer, doesn't appear to be there yet) in the Norwich Play House what's on guide a female, Iranian comedian who was a bit of a looker really appealed. So we both decided to take a chance.

She was supported by her husband Kristian Riemer. Both were hilarious and more than a little risqué! The quote from Shappi that sticks in my head is “American's still don't know the difference between Iran and Iraq. We're the ones with weapons of mass destruction.”

Shappi also appears on Radio 4 comedy shows. If you get the chance to see her I highly recommend it.

    Hey Paul, I love Shappi too Shappi gig.

    When I saw her in Reading, Kristian was supposed to be there too "but the Baby Sitter hadn't showed up. Shappi had to do an even longer set. Wonderful!

Catalina-Ant for Tomcat 7

I recently upgraded from Tomcat 6 to Tomcat 7 and all of my Ant deployment scripts stopped working. I eventually worked out why and made the necessary changes, but there doesn’t seem to be a complete description of how to use Catalina-Ant for Tomcat 7 on the web so I thought I'd write one. To start with, make sure Tomcat manager is configured for use by Catalina-Ant. Make sure that manager-script is included in the roles for one of the users in TOMCAT_HOME/conf/tomcat-users.xml . I’ve used a lot of existing Representational State Transfer (REST) APIs and have created several of my own. I see a lot of inconsistency, not just between REST APIs but often within a single REST API. I think most developers understand, at a high level, what a REST API is for and how it should work, but lack a detailed understanding. I think the first thing they forget to consider is that REST APIs allow you to identify and manipulate resources on the web. Here I want to look briefly at what a REST API is and offer some advice on how to structure one, how it should behave and what should be considered when building it. I know this isn’t emacs vs vi, but it can be quite contentious.
